US Elections Commission Says Armenian Candidate "Lied"
Friday, 02 October 2009 09:21
Ohio Elections Commission of the United States has ruled that the Armenian-descent independent congressional candidate David Krikorian "lied" when accusing Republican Congresswoman Jean Schmidt of taking bribe from Turkish authorities to support the Turkish theses on the incidents of 1915.
Earlier, during a 2008 election campaign, Krikorian claimed that Schmidt had taken 30,000 USD as bribe from the Turkish government and Turkish-American associations in order to support Turkey's stance regarding the draft law on Armenian allegations.
Upon such accusation, congresswoman Schmidt applied to Ohio Elections Commission and filed a complaint against Krikorian.
After a two-day evaluation, the elections commission unanimously ruled that Krikorian had delivered "false statements" intentionally, in bad faith and without making any research.
The commission is also expected to issue a public reprimand on the issue.
